‹Return to Previous Page

This large size note, known as the “Buffalo Bill” or “Bison Note”, is well known for it’s intricate design of the obverse and reverse. On the obverse of the note you’ll see a bison between the portraits of legendary American explorers Meriwether Lewis and William Clark. In Paper Money of the United States it mentions “There is a disagreement over whether the bison is Black Diamond, the animal on the reverse of the Indian Head nickel, or Pablo, a bison who resided at the Washington Zoo.” As well as red serial numbers and a red Treasury Seal. On the reverse of the note you will see a female figure representing Columbia standing between two pillars and two scrolls.
