COMMENTS: This beautiful ring features a shimmering moonstone cameo of a pharaoh. The cameo has been expertly carved and the stone is iridescent with light blue flash. The cameo is framed in graduated rubies, bead set and mounted in 14k gold. There is a star at the bottom of the head. Seba is the Egyptian symbol for a star. The term ‘seba’ means discipline or learning and it is associated with gates and doorways. The early Egyptian had a great interest in an extensive knowledge of the star-filled night sky. The stars had a great deal of influence on the development of their calendar and also dictated their beliefs in life after death. The ceilings of their temples were decorated with images of astral deities, constellations, and stars. The Egyptian sky goddess, Nut is also shown adorned with five-pointed stars. The stars were supposed to represent the souls of the dead and considered the followers of Osiris. This piece was probably originally a pin and has been wonderfully crafted into a ring. The shank comes from the bottom and loops in 2 holes, between the rubies, and folds around for a graceful appearance. Circa 1940’s. Pictured as received from a local estate. Very good estate condition with minimal wear indicative of age. Items will be cleaned but natural patina will be preserved if applicable. Polishing to near new is always FREE upon request!
