COMMENTS: Circa 1980’s. This diamond bypass ring holds a diamond measuring 4.8mm in the center. The diamond is a European cut. The old European cut has a round girdle, meaning it appears round from the top view as opposed to the earlier old mine cut which had a more squared off top view. Like the old mine cut, the old European has a high crown, small table, and open culet. Notice the culet ( the point at the bottom) in pictures, Instead of coming to a perfect point, it is cut straight across so that it is flat at the bottom. Jewelers back in the day, thought that cutting the point off the culet would allow more light to shine through the stone. Old European cut diamonds have facets that are thick triangular blocks as opposed to modern round brilliant cuts which have thinner facets. There are 4 accent diamonds in the bypass design of the ring. Pictured as received from a local estate. Very good estate condition with minimal wear indicative of age. Cleaning and/or polishing by request at no additional cost.
