10 Dollar Gold Eagle

The 10 Dollar Gold American Eagle is a popular bullion item among both collectors and investors. Struck since 1986, the coin contains one-quarter ounce of pure gold and features an obverse design by Augustus Saint-Gaudens that depicts Miss Liberty. The reverse — designed by Miley Busiek — shows a family of eagles around a nest.

It was initially dated in Roman numerals until 1992, when the U.S. Mint changed to Arabic numerals for greater clarity. Most uncirculated 10 dollar gold eagles are common, but some are quite scarce and trade at premiums above spot prices (e.g., 1999–W uncirculated issue and burnished 2006–08 pieces). Collectors tend to buy coins graded MS70 or higher, while investors typically opt for coins below 69 grades as they come at more affordable prices than their top-grade counterparts.
