1858 $3 Gold Piece Indian Princess Head:
The 1858 $3 gold piece was first issued in 1854 by the Act of February 21, 1853. It is unknown why the denomination was made but it was not popular among the general population.
The design of the coin features an Indian princess adorned with a headdress that reads LIBERTY on the head band. The reverse of the coin depicts a wreath made of tobacco, wheat, cotton & corn.
Though this denomination was not popular to spend, many early speculating collectors held on to these when they initially were introduced.
Most dates in this series are incredibly scarce and highly sought after in any condition as mintages are as low as only 500 various some years.
